| I have a 2003 Kawasaki Prairie 650. The belt light was on steady and I called the dealer who told me that it comes on automatically after a certain amount of time and needs to be checked. I wasn't having any problem with the belt slipping, except for occasionally when I pulled out. I have 850 miles on it. I had the oil changed and the mechanic told me he could reset the light. I've never had any problem with the engine, but when I got the 650 back home it had a bad miss when I started to drive it. It starts perfectly and idles perfectly, but when I try to pull out it's almost like I'm in reverse and the override button needs to be pushed to smooth out the engine. Also, when I got it back the belt light was flashing instead of burning steady. The mechanic just changed the oil and tried to reset the light. Any idea what he may have done. He said he didn't do anything that would have caused the problem, but it wasn't happening before. Thanks.

| I have a friend who has had this problem and had the dealer reset the light but it did it again. He brought it back and it turned out to be a loose ground wire in the electrical system somewhere. The dealers name is Mahowald Sports in New Prague MN if you want to ask them where the short was. I have a 650 with 1500 miles on it and have never had any problems other than the engine brake actuator got water in it and started to fail (warranty).

| I have a 2003 Prairie 650 and the same has happened to me.. But my belt actually went bad and had to be replaced. I repleaced it in august, 2005 and this weekend, the belt light came back on and kicked in the overide, which will only allow you to go about 9-10MPH.
Take the belt cover off and top on the inside there is a switch, flip it back and it should work fine. That is what I did with mine. By the way, I bought mine brand new in 2002 and I have 4,875 miles on it. still runs like it did when it was new!!
