| I am interested in Buying the Polaris Sportsman 500 H.O., but did not know if I should buy the Yamah Kodiak 450 AUTO 4X4??? Anyone out there that can answer which one would be better than the other? It will be used mostly for plowing and a little bit of year-round trail riding.

| i bought two polaris 500's one month ago. remember two things: 1) this is the worlds best selling atv, so why buy any other. 2) polaris is the way out. wife and i have the same machines and we love them both. wouldn't buy any other machine. research shows and proves polaris is #1.

| | Dont buy a Honda if you intend on having any fun. For one they are always in limited slip, and two they are weak. Ploris is much better offroad then both yahmaha and honda due to true AWD on the fly. yahmaha has true 4wd but you have to practically stop to use it, so u lose lots of momentum. Polaris is built like a horse, about 100lbs heavier, but it helps it to go through more. Yahmahas have many problems spec w/ grizzs. Polaris the way. American made. |

| YOU WILL NOT GO WRONG W/POLARIS.I have been using one for four years mainly to plow snow on my 1200` driveway. It has never failed me.Get a winch;you may need it to get unstuck in bad conditions.Rides great, maint.is easy.
Occasionally use it to play in woods.

| I don't know anything about the yamahas, but i think polaris has pretty much figured the 500 h.o.out. i'vevhad mine just over 4 weeks and i love it.iwas told to use the low range more on this bike than on other brands of bikes, which i thought was odd,i thought that i was being told to baby it,because it was a dealer telling this to me,i figured he was saying this to get me to go easy until the warranty runs out,but i believe he was correct.i tried to go up a 10' hill that was pretty much straight up and i was in high range,it climbed up about half way then started to slip the belt,i stopped and put it in low and climbed like a montain goat,i also tried to pull a trailer that probaly weighed about 5-6000 lbs. and also slipped the belt, although only for a second before downshifting to low and moving it without a wimper. now i know the limitations of this bike and i will ride it accordingly.i believe i did not do any dammage to it because i realized it in time and corrected it.i saw a man in the dealer when i bought my bike, and he had a couple of belts in his hand for his 2004 spotrsman, and he didnt look too happy.i am sure you can overwork any machine quite easily if you use it the wrong way.it is easy to think these machines are un stoppable and they are to a certain extent, you just have to use your head and heed warnings of people
who know.i do belive i have made the absolute right decision in buying my 2005 polaris,it has taken me through swamps that i know i could not get through with any other type of transportation, not a tractor, truck,or 2 wheel bike and certainly not on foot.i hope this helps with anyone thinking about polaris, ithink it is a helluva bike!

| I would recomend that you get a Polaris Sportsman 500H.O. It is such a better machine Iused to have A Kodiak 450 but just last Christmas I got a new Sportsman 500. It is so much better it has more ground clearence so it won't hit as much stuff it goes through snow like it was nothng the gearing on it is exelent.
