| The number 90% is completely incorrect.
On a "TLC" program a couple years ago concerning "Made In America" the program stated the average Harley Davidson is made up of around 52% Amercan made parts. Most of the major engine components are made in Germany. To get another ideas, check out the "Genuine Harley Davidson Acessories" on the wall at your local HD dealer.
I was is a HD dealership last summer, and the dealer had put the price sticker over all parts not made in the USA. I counted around 70% made in foreign countries.
The only thing on an HD that is more American than some other bikes in this country is the origin of HD itself.

| | I'm not sure how much is American made, but I do know that Harley cannot legally put a "Made in America" sticker on thier bikes any longer. My American made Valkyrie is made here with more American pparts that Harley. |

| Welcome to the world economy. There is not one automotive product assembled in this country that is even remotely composed of a majority of U.S. made sub-assemblies. NOT ONE. How do I know? I troubleshoot the robotics that are used in many of the automotive manufacturing and tier one and tier two suppliers plants around the globe. I see the markings on the boxes from Japan, Mexico, Germany and other countries. (The things that the average consumer is not suppose to know about, because of marketing reasons.) Some of the internal replacement assemblies between the Japanese and American bikes are actually interchangeable with miner mods because the suppliers are the same. The end result is buy what suits you. I have ridden bikes for several decades with many different groups and have never bought any product for the name, or to satisfy anyone else. Buy it for the looks, comfort, riding style, buy it for you. Real bikers have an attitude of feirce independence and could care less about what anyone thinks. Only the Yuppie and RUB crowds are trying to buy a status symbol. The point here is JUST RIDE.
