I'm looking a a 2002 Sportsman 500 used.
I've heard about problems with belts going out and Polaris not covering it under warrenty. I've also heard they have a lifetime belt warrenty. Which is it? Does the independent read end really help that much when in deep snow?
I've got a Praire 400 and a 360 and they both bottom out in deep packed snow. I see the Grizzlys and such cruise right by me when I'm high centered. Of course they made the rots so I maybe OK without the independent if I'm the one blazing the trail. I did get into between 2-3 feet of very dry snow near Steamboat Springs Colo on new years day and just kept getting stuck over and over. Even in the trails we just made we were still getting high centered. The tires would dig in and we would sink. Will the Polaris help or am I using the wrong type of machine (need a snowmobile)?

he belt has a lift time warrenty. The 500ho is great in snow. 2-3 feet it will not get stuck. i've only been stuck in 7 feet of snow ( the colorado blizzard of 2003)

Usually Polaris will replace the drive belt for free the first time but if you keep breaking or burning them out it's because you are abusing the vehicle or you are driving too slow while in high gear.
